Used Automatix now printer doesn't work - CUPS server not working

Afer using Automatix to install some packages I noticed that trying to print from any application would hang that application.
I tried looking at the installed printer configuration (Canon i*65 in this case) but get a message saying that the CUPS server is not working.
Going to re-install CUPS packages but find it a bit worrying that things can break like this without touching that specific area.
Any thoughts.

perhaps that happened to me
and i won by installing some different cups packages
