Error when mount CDROM drive

Help! After installing MEPIS 2.6.15-26, I tried to mount my CDROM drive. Got error message "mounting medium not found". The drive is recognized in BIOS and appears in the MEPIS list of storage devices. It is a generic CD 8/8/12 drive. If I try to use it anyway, whether for data import or music, it crashes the system. Drive worked fine during MEPIS install. System is P3 Coppermine 1.1 ghz, 380 mB ram, 80 gB hard drive. Thanks!
