You may want to be a bit

You may want to be a bit more patient in waiting for a reply to your question of six hours ago at:
http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=connectivity&message.id=4305&query.id=72325#M4305

You've selected "Data Transfer" and connected the phone to your computer's USB port. (So you told them at the Nokia forums, at any rate.)

What version of MEPIS are you running?

Do you have any Removable Media Icons popping up on your desktop?

What have you tried so far?

"You have two labs?"
"Each has its place. At the university, I try to please the Federal Government. Here, I negotiate with God."

sorry!.. will stick with this forum.

oh great ball of hair with feet and a grin. Laughing out loud

Sorry about that double post! i agree i was a bit impatient. i realized this forum would help me more as its for my distro..

ok
well my KDE is 3.5
ok the version of MEPIS! hmm dont know how to get that. but its the latest stable release.. installed MEPIS not even a month back.
ok yeah i have tried:

connecting the cable physically and selecting the datatransfer option on the phone as it promts on connection..
that is it..
nope i looked for a popup icon on my desktop! nothing..

First-off, right-click on

First-off, right-click on your desktop, and select "Configure Desktop..."
Then select "Behavior" and "Device Icons"
Match the selections below...

...then try connecting to the Nokia again.

Hair ball???

"You have two labs?"
"Each has its place. At the university, I try to please the Federal Government. Here, I negotiate with God."

nothing happened...

ummm! nope nothing happened!..
tell me one thing.. when i connect, i have to select the data transfer option right.? cause it says that my phone will go into offline mode while the date transfer mode is activated.
and then the phone goes on data transfer mode but nothing happens on the desktop..
oh sorry about the hair ball thing.. was commenting on the pic u have on ur profile i guess. the grinning ball of hair with feet! haha..

According to the second post

According to the second post in that thread:

Quote:
All the S60 3rd Edition Nseries phones will work as an USB drive, if you select the "Data transfer" mode when connecting (and not, e.g., "PC Suite". That means these models: N71, N73, N80, N91, N92, N93.

It appears that your model should appear as a mass storage device when connected, but others mention problems with this.

Try connecting the phone, then open up a console session.
type 'su' hit enter and type in your root password.
then type this in:

lsusb -v

Hit enter and you should get a bunch of stuff...look for something that indicates your phone is connected and recognized.

When I connect my cell, this is waht I get:

Which is no guarantee that it will work, because mine certainly doesn't at this point in time. It just means that it's recognized by the system.

Now, if in that glut of text, you see:

      bInterfaceClass 8 Mass Storage
      bInterfaceSubClass 6 SCSI
      bInterfaceProtocol 80 Bulk (Zip)

then you do stand a chance of being able to do something with it.

If, instead, you see:

      bInterfaceClass 255 Vendor Specific Class
      bInterfaceSubClass 255 Vendor Specific Subclass
      bInterfaceProtocol 255 Vendor Specific Protocol

The chances aren't very good at all.

As u can see below! nothing

As u can see below! nothing happens!.. i cant get this.. it should work!Smiling..
in windows its perfect.. but then again in windows i use the pcsuite option..
hey! can it be possible that some lib file or something are missing to pick up the phone?
below is the text that i got from

The only things that seem to

The only things that seem to be detected, at the hardware level are:

iProduct 2 UHCI Host Controller
iProduct 2 Optical USB Mouse
iProduct 2 UHCI Host Controller
iProduct 2 EHCI Host Controller

It would seem that the motherboard hardware is missing the Nokia entirely under Linux.

The implication of your having to use pcsuite with windows is that there is a mismatch at the hardware/protocol level. I'd almost wager that we're looking at a USB firmware rev issue or BIOS firmware issue.

Are your USB ports 2.0 compliant?

I ask because I'm not seeing any indication of 2.0 compliance in the lsusb output. Everything looks like 1.0 or 1.10 firmware revision level.

Do you have any specific data on the motherboard or USB adapter itself--make, model, etc.?

Wait a minute...try different USB connectors. It looks like you may have a mix of revision types on that motherboard.

One Interjection

One interjection to EnigmaOne's good info. What kind of computer hardware do you have thyscorpion? I ask because of EnigmaOne's question about USB revision level. Please provide any information on the computer that you're trying to plug the Nokia into Smiling

From that question, assuming that this might be a slightly older system, and assuming the current USB ports are not 2.0, would a possible "solution" be to get a new USB 2.0 card to insert into the computer? (There appear to be two "ass"es in that previous question).

Back to you EO! Smiling

Sorry for replying after such a long time.

Which solution are you saying worked for you n73? It seems like you're being a little vague.
