re-compile kernel (2.6.15-26-386)
I've heard that ISA support isn't compiled into 2.6 kernels. I would like to. I have not much experience compiling things and I've only re-compiled a kernal once (during a seminar). Could I ask for help from someone?
On a possibly related issue my USB ports are no longer working. The computer sees the ports but they aren't active (as seen below).
-I have an alsa sound card
-Here are some specs I can easily get:

What is your hardware specs and what are you trying to plug in? All i can tell you st this point is you have a usb hub ver 1.1. It all seems pretty mutch standard to my listings but a lot of things have changed since your version of Mepis. Have you tried plugging in something while booted into Mepis? More info is in order and you might run lsmod & post it.

Well, I just tried plugging it in anew but that didn't seem to help any.

I am almost certain the problem with the usb ports is the permission settings. The reason for this belief is that it sees my usb ports and it sees my PDA.

to fix this could I:
chown -R
or perhaps
chmod -R 777 /*usb* /*USB*

Perhaps there are some modules I could put in? Let me know what works best. I have never put modules in so perhaps someone could direct me to some modules and then if it works we could compile them into the kernel. Yeahhhhh.... I like that idea!
