eth0 and eth1 getting interchanged

Hi,
I am facing a strange problem. I have two network interfaces for my PC, one onboard, the other PCI. Generally when I boot MEPIS, the onboard network interface gets the logical address eth0 and the PCI network interface gets eth1. But at times when I boot the PC, these two get interchanged i.e. the onboard one gets eth1 and the PCI one gets eth0. This is giving me a problem because my firewall is configured based on these NIC to logical address mappings. I guess the problem is because the mapping of the NIC to the logical addresses is done dynamically during boot time. If anyone of you have any solution for this, kindly let me know.

Regards,
Rahul.

and a forum search might get you the answer.

Here's the original post

Here's the original post where it was solved:
http://www.mepis.org/node/10770

It requires writing a new udev rule, but there are detailed instructions in the thread.

Have Fun!
