problem with bluetooth
I am trying to set up a belkin F8T003 bluetooth adaptor. On starting the pc I get the message "Failed to connect to SDP server" detail "Please make sure SDPD is running". How do I check this? and, if it is not running, how do I start it?
George

sdp server
when you first installed mepis you had an option to start bluetooth services on boot.
Ok, I didn't check that box either.
sdpd is a daemon which controls the sdp server and sdptools helps admnister the bluetooth stuff
start sdpd from the console as root
sdpd
then when you pug in your bluetooth adapter into the usb you should get this in /var/log/messages
Nov 5 20:05:42 tv-and-pvr kernel: [939479.626139] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.8

Nov 5 20:06:23 tv-and-pvr kernel: [939520.528625] usbcore: registered new driver hci_usb
now you shuld be able to start kbluetoothd
and be able to play with the bluetooth adapter. I got this to work on one computer but not on another and then forgot about it.
We'll need someone else to help, and we have to have the sdpd daemon start at boot too.
Have you checked the docs project
You could try installing ksysv and dragging bluez-utils into one of the runlevels, but I don't know what particular one to use. Maybe somebody else could assist here?

I am now going to try a suggestion by Mike P

Hi Mike and Adrian
I have tried all the suggestions from drlizau, unfortunately to no avail.
I installed ksysv and dragged bluez-utils into run level 5.
I tried Adrian's suggestion but it did not help this time.
I shut down and restarted and received a message "bluetooth adapter found", so I hope this is me on my way.
Thank you all
George
