[Solved] Problem installing hplip

I have a PSC 2110 and it seems that it should be easy to install, however, all I get is junk printed!

When I have a look at hplip in Synaptic, it shows that hplib-base is not installed. When I try to install it I get

Is this important and / or relevant?

If so, what does it mean?

Not Needed

HPLIP is already installed. You don't need the HPLIP-Base package.

Chances are, you're not adding the printer corrrectly. You need to use the KDE interface to add it, and make sure you select the printer with the underscore characters in it (it's probably showing up more than once, and you're selecting the wrong one).

See this forum thread for details. I included some screen prints in it:

That got it - thanks If

That got it - thanks

If anyone knows - why does it show > 1 time?

Great

I had a feeling that was your issue (not selecting the printer with the underscore characters in the name). I ran into that one myself when I started using Linux.

So, when I see someone with the same issue, I point out the solution.

But, I don't know why a given printer model shows up more than once. I'm pretty much a Linux Novice myself.

Synaptic question

That just means that in order to install/run hplip-base it Depends on (required for use) hplip-data (=0.9.5-2ubuntu2). But there is a newer version of hplip-data (=0.9.5-2ubuntu2) that is called 0.9.7-4ubuntu1 so synaptic is going to install that instead. You'll find stuff like that with alot of installations from synaptic.
It's normal to see that.

Newer version of HPLIP needed a manual installation

I am new to Linux and after playing with Mandriva, Red Hat I found MEPIS to be the absolute best at detecting my laptop hardware and all the peripherals that I use on a daily basis. MEPIS truely is a superior product!

I am now Window$ free, thanks to SimplyMEPIS 6.0 Smiling

I recently purchased the HP PhotoSmart C3100 Series All-In-One and found the version of HPLIP (included in the install) did not include the support for the scanner or memory card reader.

As a newbie I needed to find a solution and stumbled across http://hplip.sourceforge.net/ and downloaded the 1.6.10 Release of HPLIP.

After following the installation instructions for the regular tarball, I was able to use the scanning, monitoring and other advanced tools for my new printer.

The instructions are fairly straight forward and can be found at http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/index.html

I hope this comment will help you get the updated drivers for your printer.
