USB modem by Mobile Stream crashes

Hi! there,
I am new to the Mepis Linux and have a problem with my Linux laptop lockup and crashed when I use a program call USB moderm by Mobile Stream.
This program allow me to connect my Treo 700p to the Mepis Linux with a USB cable to use it to access the internet.
It will work for about 5 to 10 minutes and then lockup the computer and I would have to restart the computer.
I thought that in linux all you have to do is start another web window and continue and not have to worry about the lockup window.

newbie, how do I start a the kppp daemon from konsole?

Hello! there,
I new to the linux OS and need some help.
How do you state kpp daemon from konsole?
The programs that I start is kppp, and firefox.
after about 5 min., I get a error 16.

Type in konsole and press enter
a black box will appear with

kppp &
press enter
when kppp crashes - we hope to have some error messages in that box. copy and paste them back here
copy is just done by highlighting them
and paste is done with the middle mouse button
start firefox from a different konsole so the error messages don't get confused.

when you start this program, i'd like you to start it from a konsole, so that error messages can be read easily.
you need to work out what command starts this program, like /usr/bin/usbmodem
(let us know if you are stuck here)
then you would start a konsole or shell, type in the command and wait to see the results.
dealing with a lockup actually needs a few wiki pages. we'll call for volunteers.
