multilingual keyboard

Hello,
At work, I press cntl-shift and swap between English and Spanish keyboard
layboard (windoze). How can I do something similar in Firefox (and Mepis in general).
I need to insert accented characters such as e' and n~ (ISO Latin1). I can do
this in OO by "insert symbol", but I need a more generic solution. I've looked
at lots web of entries, but every one seems to want to have a language (other than
English), and I want Spanish, French, and German (though I can by without Eszett).
thanks in advance.

KDE Control Center ==>> Regional & Accessibility ==>> Keyboard Layout

Make sure "Enable Keyboard Layouts" is ticked and then play around with Switching Options and XKb Options

I'm not typing this from Mepis but I know it is possible in either KDE or gnome to switch between 2 (or more) layouts with alt+shift

Use the wiki http://www.mepis.org/docs
Post to http://www.mepislovers.com -- great forum

Note also there is a "KDE keyboard tool" not sure if Mepis includes it but normally it shows on the toolbar with a flag of the US -- you can right click it to change layouts. It's called Kxkb

keyboard

Thanks, I had loaded the other languages, but not turned
them on. Now I have a country flag in the system tray.
BTW "Kxkb" is not in the synaptic repositories, but I'm
happy now anyway.
cheers
