synaptic packages issues
When opening synaptic I get the following errors. Subsequently I can't upgrade or update any installed software.
I had tried to configure new respitories and currently point to the ftp.us.debian.org site as can be seen below.

If you are running 6.0 l
If you are running 6.0 l wouldn't be using the Debian repostories to upgrade or you might be one sad puppy
afterwards. 6.0 uses the Ubuntu Dapper repos and the Mepis Pool.

If you are in fact running 3.4.3
then just delete the .us. part of the repository address
to read....
ftp.debian.org instead without the us in it
synaptic
did you "reload" after changing repositories?
Change ftp.us.debian.org to
Change ftp.us.debian.org to http.us.debian.org
"deb ftp://http.us.debian.org/debian/ etch main contrib non-free".

Thanks - this seemed to do the trick with "http" prefix.
I have a number of custom apps loaded on 3.4.3 which is why I haven't upgraded to 6. Also, not sure if 6 is slower.
