Firefox 2.0 problem

Hi everybody I just tried to install firefox 2.0 and synaptic told me that it will have to remove mepis-auto-6.0, mepis-onthego-6.0, mepis-simply-6.0, mepis-utilities-6.0 and without thinking I let it do it, after finishing and installing firefox 2.0 now I have no programs in my kmenu and I can't access CLI or synaptic or anything can anybody tell me what the heck happened, just installing latest firefox should not delete every program I had, any help would be appreciated.

I know this won't help you,

I know this won't help you, but I just now asked Warren to take Firefox 2.0 out of the MEPIS pool.

Now for your problem, if you can boot to the safe mode, login as root and run apt-get remove firefox and then run apt-get install mepis*, that should get you going again. Now this is just a guess for a quick fix, so you may want hold on for little while to see what some of the others have to say. Good Luck.

I pinned the old Firefox before these problems started showing because I don't like 2.0, I guess I just have dumb luck. Smiling

firefox 2.0

Thanks for your help I tried all that and it didn't work, finally I had to reinstall whole OS good thing is that I had a seprate / partition so it wasn't that bad. I still don't know what happened and BTW when I trired to install from the safe mode all my repositries were gone so something really screwed up my system, anyway thanks again.

The best alternative if you

The best alternative if you want to be up to speed is to go here and get Swiftfox Deb ... never heard of it causing anyone any problems and it is fast:

This whole thing has got me

This whole thing has got me baffled. Did you also do the mepis-auto up-grade? I had no idea that a Firefox up-grade could cause so much grief. I'm glad you're up and running again.
