kppp connects... but cannot view or download anything

Running Mepis 6.0 on a DELL p3-450. Internal hardware modem. Responds as ttyS4. I get all the correct responses when dialing my ISP including "on the network".

Here is the problem...

After I am supposedly logged on, no websites will load... kweather does not work... Synaptic cannot get any packages... It's as if I am "online" but cannot look at or download anything.

Any suggestions?

(Final piece of info. Have a wireless router used solely to create a home network.)

yes.
you don't have DNS working.
try using a numerical value first eg 64.34.164.39
and use ping in a konsole
ping -c4 64.34.164.39
that will restrict ping to 4 efforts.
