Cox Internet

My IBM Pentium 3 with MEPIS worked perfectly on Verizon/DSL from the start; no setup required. I switched to COX cable internet and I can't get online at all. The cable works fine on my Dell/XP laptop. Any ideas?

RE:Cox Internet

Generally, connecting to Cox is not a problem.

We need more info: Is your connection via a USB or eth0 modem?

Did you use mutilities?

Please More Information

Westbay, I have been running on Cox cable for years with many different versions of hardware and cable modems. I am currently using both wired and wireless connections from multiple computers. So I know it works Smiling

Please give us more information on your layout. What type of cable modem are you using? Is your computer hooked directly to the modem, or are you going through a router of some sort? If so, what brand and model? Do you have more than one computer? If so, we can use one computer to diagnose the other (and connections between them).

Also, give us a little info about setting when you are in Windows XP. Please go into XP, open a command window (Start -> Run -> CMD.EXE). Once there, enter the following command: "ipconfig /all" (can be either UPPERCASE or lowercase. Copy/paste the results back to us. What I'm interested to see is whether your computer is set up for STATIC (probably not) or DYNAMIC (probably) IP allocation.

With that info we can take it to the next step Smiling
