Synaptic and KPackage can't open cd in MEPIS 6.0

From the menu in Synaptic: "Edit/Add CD-ROM" results in "E: Failed to mount the cdrom." Trying to install a package from KPackkage if the cd is needed, it keeps asking for the disk and doesn't open it.
dmesg shows:

However, from the File menu in KPackage, I can open a package on the cd and it will install ok. It all works fine in 3.4.2 on same machine, different partition. Any ideas?

I upgraded mepis-auto-6.0-3h to 6.0-3l and the problem disappeared! I hope this will help someone else with the same problem.
