Morgantown, WV, Dec 22, 2006 -- MEPIS LLC has released Beta1 of SimplyMEPIS-32 Version 6.0-4, aka SystemUpdate1 (SU1). SimplyMEPIS is a complete and safe desktop computing environment designed to meet the needs of everyday computer users and software professionals alike.

Warren Woodford of MEPIS said "Over the past two weeks, most of the changes have been available in the MEPIS dev-32 pool. MEPIS testers have been hard at work trying out the packages. With their help, this will be the best SimplyMEPIS-32 ever."

MEPIS continues to offer advanced hardware autodetection, multimedia integration, and an easy to use installer. Of special note, this update includes Firefox 2.0; the latest updates of other packages; and a rock solid, security patched 2.6.15 Linux kernel with support for the newest sound chips and Apple hardware.

The ISO image is available for download in the 'testing' subdirectory at the MEPIS Subscriber's Site and at MEPIS public mirrors. Satisfied users are encouraged to make a contribution or make a purchase at the MEPIS store. Your support helps offset the costs of producing SimplyMEPIS 6.0 and funds further development of MEPIS Linux.

The current development cycle at MEPIS is on a fast-track schedule with a targeted release date of approximately January 10, 2007.
