Well, I am getting around to getting my printer going. I enter localhost:631 and go through the selections and then it asks me for a password. Root's password doesn't do it. What should I do?

Don't use the CUPS Web Interface

With SimplyMEPIS 6.0, you can't use the CUPS Web interface to add a printer. You need to use KDE Control Center instead.
Also, there is usually more than one occurrence of a printer if you look closely, and with my HP, I have to use the entry with the underscore characters in it. My guess is that your printer is showing up more than once, too.
