(RESOLVED) Grub user name & passwords necessary?

On a dual boot XP & MEPIS system do I have to enter and use a user ID/name, password, and Administrative password? I'd like to not have to type anything in when booting into MEPIS with GRUB.

I'm a little shy on partitioning for the MEPIS installation as I tried it once with QTparted but was confused and failed. I now have Gparted on boot CD and am thinking of a 7GB /Root and a 512MB (my total RAM) Swap with the Home using /Root. How does this sound? Any advice?

Thanks for your help.

Convenience

You do need to set up a user name and password and an administrative (root) password when you install. It's important not to log in as root -- this is one of the key things that makes Linux more secure than Windows.

You can opt for automatic user login after you install
It's in the KDE control center
System Administration ==>> Login Manager ==> Convenience ==>> Administrator Mode ==> Mark Enable Auto Login ==>> Apply

It's good to have a separate home partition -- In that case 7 GB would be plenty for Mepis software, etc. but home partition should be larger (unless you have limited space) in case you want to save music, pictures, etc.
Swap space is correct.
