OK -- leave the resolution alone

OK -- leave the resolution alone and just take the word "splash" out of the boot line.
Then we can fix the resolution later.
Does that help?
One way of fixing the resolution once you are in Mepis
dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
or, you could try just adding the 1440x900 resolution to /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually

when booting live cd.I'm having no problems with the resolution.I have noticed that mepis does't have a configuration for al1916w but it has one for al1914w system config>peripherals>mepis config>monitor.I wonder if this is the problem as i can boot vesa.org.Which ati should I be using.thanks john

Boot splash screen not important

Boot splash screen not important
It sounds like your system is working properly, but the boot splash screen does not work. Is this correct?
If this is the case, I would leave it alone. Get everything working as you like it in the running system.
It is possible to build a custom splash screen. This is not necessary. Frequently you are better off without the splash, so that you can see more of the boot messages.

acer monitor support

Just downloaded mepis 6.04 beta4.Still no support for acer monitor al1916w.Have to boot normal and don't see anything until login in screen comes up.Pc linuxos or sam doesn't have this problem as screen displays properly from start.I think mepis should address this situation as it is a deterent to potential users having to wait for splashy and it doesn't happen. How many people would wait for login in screen.I see resolution has been worked on ,but this doesn't solve the problem. Thanks John
Remove "splash" from grub boot line

At the boot screen, press F3 to select the desired resolution (probably 1440x900)
http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/Monitor_resolution
When the live CD is about to boot, you will get a GRUB boot screen. The cursor will be at a line that probably ends in vga=791 and has the word "splash" near the end of the line. Before pressing enter to start the boot process, move the cursor to the left and delete the word "splash"
Press enter to boot ...
If you still have problems getting the desired resolution, don't worry about that -- we'll get it fixed pretty quickly.
