Updated AntiX 8.2-pt1 is Available for Testing

Morgantown, WV, US and Thessaloniki, Greece, Jun 21, 2009 -- The antiX-team is proud to announce that an updated antiX MEPIS 8.2 Public Test 1 is available at MEPIS mirrors in the testing directory and the released/antix directory.

Public Test1 comes with the latest upgrades from MEPIS and Debian Testing, including Xorg1.6, 2.6.27-25-686 MEPIS kernel, iceweasel 3.0.11, Abiword 2.6.8-5, pidgin 2.5 and slightly adapted MEPIS tools for better use in antiX. And much, much more.

Localisation is much improved, 10 languages are fully supported OOTB. Language chosen at livecd boot will carry over to install. Boot time should be faster particularly if the Faster option
is chosen at boot menu.

There are major change in antiX control centre design. system-config-printer replaced with gtklp
meta-installer allows for install of kde4, gtkam added, and cheese (webcam) added. mozilla-mplayer is with gecko-mediaplayer.

AntiX is designed to work on computers with as little as 64 MB RAM and Pentium II or equivalent AMD processors, but not K5/K6 processors. 128 MB RAM is recommended minimum.

About Anti
Anti is a Brit living and working for the last 19 years as a teacher in Thessaloniki the second largest city in Greece. AntiX is remastered from MEPIS to give something back to the community and to work on boxes with 128MB RAM (It does work with 64MB RAM + 128MB swap). The name alludes to the ideas that it is supposed to be like antics (fun) and it is for antiques (ie older boxes). Plus anti is the nickname of the creator and maintainer of AntiX.
