6.0.4 Memory Leak?
I'm not sure what's going on here.
But, I've noticed that after I run SimplyMEPIS 6.0-4 (now beta 4) for a while, my memory usage will climb significantly.
For example, here is a screen shot showing my PC using cloxe to 400MB of RAM (out of 1GB total) now after 29 hours of use, with nothing loaded except for Kinfocenter, KSensors, and KSnapshot (to get a screen capture of it). Firefox wasn't even loaded.

Yet, if I reboot, it will be use less than 100MB of RAM, until I start opening and closing apps like Firefox again. Then, RAM usage will slowly climb again, as if something is not freeing up all RAM after you close it.
Any ideas as to what's eating up the RAM?
That's probably what did it

So I installed to a new partition, copied over my home folder and bang!, again some crazy memory leak. My memory use would go through the roof when changing desktop backgrounds or icon themes.
That could be what caused it (changing backgrounds/icon themes).
I've been doing a lot of that trying to come up with a usable desktop with readable icon text. I've changed the wallpaper, themes and more around pretty often trying to find an acceptable solution.
This is a newly created username though. So, the only thing I've changed with this user so far is the wallpaper. But, perhaps the previous changes impacted this one, too.
Sometimes the theme changes do seem to cause odd behavior (screen refusing to repaint, Firefox not responding requiring me to kill it, etc.).
So, my changes are probably the culprit. I won't worry about it for now. I'll do a clean install once 6.0-4 goes final and see if that solves it.

Jim, I had a similar issue.

Jim, I had a similar issue. At first I thought it was a bug, but I could not reproduce it on the live CD nor on a clean install. So I installed to a new partition, copied over my home folder and bang!, again some crazy memory leak. My memory use would go through the roof when changing desktop backgrounds or icon themes.
So what I did was use the MEPIS system assistant to restore the original KDE configs, and all is OK so far as I can tell. You might wanna try the same.
I don't know the root cause yet, so exactly WHAT was wrong, no idea....
Newbie or not Newbie, there's always a question
