What is the best multifuction printer?
I would think that MEPIS, being a "desktop" distro, would put more emphasis on printing. In my move from Windows to MEPIS/Linux I have learned that printing seems to by WAY BEHIND.
Just to get an older HP LaserJet to work properly I have had to update HPLIPS as the version in the repo's is way outdated.
Now in my quest to get a plain, cheap multifuction inkjet I have no clue where to go. I have checked out the Linux Printing database and that seems to be somewhat out of date.
Does anyone know what color inkjet printer to get? All I need is a color inkjet printer/scanner that doesn't cost over $100 and is not too bad on ink and is still available at most places.
Thanks for any help!
P.S. is there anyway MEPIS could put/keep the most updated printer support in the repo's? I don't know too many desktops that don't have a printer...
BTW: I am VERY glad to move 100% to MEPIS/Linux and don't really ever want to go back to Windows.

THe HP OfficeJet 5610 is a little bit more (you can find it for $125 or so), but works fine with MEPIS as a printer/fax/scanner.
It's been updated in SimplyMEPIS 6.0-4

The new 6.0-4 betas have an updated HPLiP available now (the current 1.7.1 release). Warren added it to the new repositories for 6.0-4 a couple of days ago.
The one in the Ubuntu repositories is still out of date (more than 10 releases behind).
If you install one of the newer SimplYMEPIS betas, load Synaptic, press the Reload button, press Mark all Upgrades and press Apply, the newer version will be installed in the beta.
I did notice that the newer hpijs-ppds was not installed during this update. So, search for hpijs-ppds using Synaptic, right click on it, select Mark for Installation, and press apply to get the newer PPD files to go with the newer version of HPLIP (which will remove the older version of hplip-ppds that's already installed and redundant).
If you're not on 6.0-4, I'd suggest upgrading to it (even though it's a beta). I'm now running it on my desktop and my wife's laptop with no issues at all (it's very stable).

Thanks Jim,
I have been using the MEPIS32 since beta one and am up to beta four. I love it and it has been very stable for me.
I just noticed that HPLIP has been updated.
Now all I need to do is settle on a printer.
