Setting up the network turns off the screen

I decided to give MEPIS-32 beta 4 another test.

A couple days ago I had tested it as a LiveCD for the first time and had wonderful results.

This evening I rebooted it again as a LiveCD and again used the Mepis Network Assistant to setup my Broadcom 4306 wireless. But, this time, instead of carefully unchecking EACH checkbox on EVERY other port except the wlan0 port, I merely set the wlan0 port to start at boot and to apply the changes immediately instead of rebooting, which makes no sense when running as a LiveCD.

Like before, the screen turned BLACK (why should it do this? There is no connection between the video and the wireless...) BUT THIS TIME it did not come back! My system appeared to be hung. I used Ctrl+Alt+F2 and got a login screen. But, entering 'root' and pressing the Enter key never resulted in a password prompt. Hung again. So, I used Ctrl+Alt+F7 and got my GUI screen back. I forgot to do a Ctrl+Alt+backspace to reboot the Xserver. Would it have worked? ??? I just turned off my laptop and kicked the CD out just before it shut down.

The hang was caused by the fact that unless I tell the network assistant NOT to check for an eth0 or eth1 or eth2 plugin it will attempt to bind eth1 to my broadcom 4305 chip, which hangs the attempt to log into my wireless network.

Things are made more difficult because when the "apply" button is clicked after making the network settings the video goes black. That is a problem that should be rectified before MEPS-32 goes Gold.
