default route wrong
Posts: 19
I have two interfaces, eth0 and eth1. After 'service networking restart',
I get two default routes, one via eth1, and another via eth0 (both wired LAN).
How do I tell mepis to use only eth0 as default route but not eth1 ?
2. How do I define static address for eth via config-files or via GUI ?
I do not see eth config under kcontrol.
Thanks
Yakov

I do not have Mepis under Start->System. I also
do not have "Mepis Utilities" under Start->System->
System Configuration. I do not have anything that says
"Mepis" under any item in the Start menu.

Hi Yakov,
Did you click on system configuration first.
If still not there can you tell us what mepis version you are on.

Try this
route add default eth0
if that works then add it in /etc/rc.local (before the "exit 0" line)

Hi Yakov,
Now I know its 6.0
Go to kmenu click on System Configuration (settings) then when box opens click on System Adminstration then click on Mepis Utilities once box has come up enter your root password when asked now look down menu and click on Network Interfaces.
Now look at tabs which you want to alter if you dont want eth1 to start at boot up just click on eth1 tab and untick start at boot and apply.

Not a Valid Version of MEPIS?

Hi Yakov,
The newest MEPIS kernel is 2.6.15-27. MEPIS has never shipped with a 2.6.17 kernel. It looks like you may be running an Ubuntu kernel. Ubuntu kernels do not work correctly with MEPIS, although MEPIS kernels work with Ubuntu.
Where did you get the ISO?

Hi Yakov,
What version of mepis are you on if you are on 6.04 beta go into kmenu (start menu)system, mepis, network assistant look in there and look in tabs at eth1 there should be a setting to untick at start up also if you look at eth0 tab you can set static address if you wish.
If it is an older version if I remember it is kmenu, system configuration settings, mepis utilities enter root password and look in network interface and look for eth0 and eth1 in there.
