USB Ports not recognized
Posts: 1
I recently decied to migrate to Linux and choose Mepis to be the right OS for me. Though I have been using Knoppix since a long time without much problem (except installation of new softwares). I booted through the live cum instal cd and found that my USB keyboard and USB mouse, which work perfect in windows and even in Knoppix were not responding here. As there was no way to go furthur, I had to stop using Mepis. I then tried Kubuntu and the above usb devices were detected. But some how I still wish to install Mepis as my OS. Can anyone suggest how I could use my usb devices in Mepis ?

Check your cmos (bios) settings

Most bios defaults do not have legacy support turned on for usb keyboard and mouse as standard, but many have the option built in should you need it. If yours is set to no, change it to yes
Another option would be to look for a line that reads something like plug and play OS and make sure it is set to "no"
Basically, all it does is force the bios to handle all connected hardware required to run the system before passing control over to the OS, but instead of letting the OS handle the way the hardware interfaces with your motherboard, the Bios does it. Normally more reliable this way too because motherboard manufacturers think only in terms of writing drivers for windows, which makes them smart in one sense but daft at the same time for omitting a fast rising contender like Linux.
I recommend you check your cmos/bios settings first

I have a USB mouse and l use a little adapter to allow me to plug into the mouse port on my computer ... perhaps the same adapter would work for the key board too. Look at this site to understand what l mean, Item #: C250-3768:
