Samba problems

Back in the days of Mepis 3.4-3 my Mepis system talked with my windows system nice, and we all got along. It made my move to Linux a nice, easy, and gradual one. But now I can't seem to get any file transfer between them. Both get on line and will recognize the other is there, but "time out", "no permission", "file does not exist", errors happen when I try to transfer files. So now I have to use a usb stick and manually walk the files over. How can I get my Samba Sharing back?
