no LAN in 6.5b7

I use a Gateway MA3 laptop. Sound and wifi don't work with 6.0-4(64) but the LAN did. But any upgrade, or fresh install, of any version of 6.5 looses my LAN. So, I am again back to 6.0-4. I cant do any synaptic upgrade at the moment because whats in there will loose my LAN when I restart my comp. I am willing to wate, but I thought I should post this to let you guys working on this know.

Also; when 6.5b7 loads after the password screen it gives a blue box in the middle of the screen. The box flashes as KDE loads, but none of the normal loading graphics exist.

Also; When installing from CD the root password ends up as "root" no matter what I choose it to be in the install.

Thanks

I sent dev a note

I sent a note to dev at mepis.org about my wireless.

It looks like the rt2570 quit working beginning with beta 5 (the first of the 6.5 betas, since they were 6.0-4 Betas before that). It appears to setup OK (shows up using iwconfig, able to set ESSID using iwconfig).

But, it won't grab an IP address using dhclient (and you can't start it from the MEPIS Network Assistant or the machine will lock up requiring a power down).

Interestingly, when I updated from beta to beta using Synaptic, my wireless continued to work. But, it will not work if I try it from a Live CD with Beta 5, Beta 6 or Beta 7 (it works fine with Beta 4 though).

You may want to try the 32 bit version of beta 4 and see if you can get everything working with it including kde (your other issues may be 64 bit related). Just don't try to update from a beta 4 install (or it will break a bunch of stuff from what I'm seeing with my PC after I did some updates today). I'd make sure everything works from a Live CD of any newer betas first. Then, after everything works, try a clean install with a new beta then.
