Does anyone know anything about whether or not mepis linux can work with ATI Radeon Xpress 200M video? There are not linux drivers that I can find - only the 300m can be found. Source of conflict and frustration!

fglrx driver

I have X200M in HP L2000 laptop -- I've always used fglrx ATI driver -- no problems -- except of course no Beryl -- fglrx does support Xgl, may need to tweak xorg.conf to get Xgl to work (plus you need to install Xgl and compiz in place of Beryl -- tricky)

But you said fglrx gives you problems -- I have never used the open source radeon driver, so I don't know whether it will work or not for X200M

OK -- some users report that the latest proprietary ATI fglrx driver supports AIGLX and Beryl -- but probably this wouldn't help you ...

So with this said, what do

So with this said, what do you recommend. I continue to use the fglrx driver and without fail I loose USB function after about 10 min. and when I shut down, the machine locks up. Boo! Surely Linux has a fix for this, huh?

Lie to computer

Ask Howard if it will work Ati Xpress 200(M) is based on Ati Xpress 300 and 300 is not blocked in xorg as is Xpress 200(m). Thus one might lie to the computer and insert in Device section ChipID "0x5B60" resulting in xorg thinking you have a 300, the original base for the 200 chipset.

In theory it would avoid the block in xorg. But run it by Howard first for a opinion.
