kaffeine no video on watching tv

maybe this can be solved

I think this may be codec related (or missing library for kaffeine).

I have a freecom DVB-T card and a SkyStar 2 sat card.

both work very well in other debian based distros, but in mepis there is no video picture just an audio visualisation.
a bit like when playing music.

So i suspect its a codec issue.

I had a look in synaptic for xine-extracodecs and could not find it.

would this solve the problem or do i need to install some other software ?

just as a comparison, on the live cd this worked fine and i was able to watch tv.
but the installed mepis doesnt show video.

thanks

Have you looked through the

Have you looked through the Wiki yet?

I hadnt but I have now

I hadnt but I have now followed the instructions (how to get media players to work) and this has not solved the problem.

Any ideas anyone. im sure other people out there must watch tv on mepis and have solved this issue.

How about the driver of the

How about the driver of the card? In lshw (you might have to install that first) is there a driver stated for your tvcard (looks like driver=x where x is the name)? If so.. you can check if that driver name is on its own line in the /etc/modules file. After that restart the system and see if it wishes to work then?

i would imagine that the

i would imagine that the driver is working fine as i can change tv channels and hear the sound from the tv channel.

the problem happens with the skystar 2 tv card and the freecom DVB-T USB card.

basicly any channel that I tune to has the audio but no video.

kaffeine seems to treat TV channels like I am playing music. i.e. an audio visual plug-in instead of the video being shown.

I had a similar issue 1 year ago when trying kubuntu and i had to install xine-extracodecs to get this to work (as its an mpeg2 stream) but I have installed this and this does not resolve the problem.

If i record a tv program and then play it back, kaffeine still works the same but mplayer or kmplayer will show the recorded tv fine.

That sounds like a problem

That sounds like a problem I had with kaffeine, now that you mention kplayer and all..

I have had it that sound of a wmv would play in Kaffeine, and the image would not show up, where kplayer worked just fine. I solved it by simply changing the default player around to the one that worked.

You might want to try a different TV player, like tvtime, or kdetv or something, maybe those do wish to work for you.

just seems a bit odd. I was

just seems a bit odd.

I was using sidux before this distro and had no problems what so ever. tv worked and picture worked.

Ok so the Mepis version of Kaffine is older but it should still work.

I did read somewhere some

I did read somewhere some time ago that a user had added the dlls themselves into the system. But don't ask me what how or where, all I remember is the above.

I don't think that did me any good though, so... not much use there.

Which mepis are you running, that might be useful info for other people who can help.

hi im running mepis 6.5

hi im running mepis 6.5 b7

the odd part is running from the cd it all works. I can watch tv but once installed I cant, so i suspect there is a package or a codec on the live cd that does nto get copied across to the installed system.
