Is Nvidia Vanta card to old

I want to know if the Nvidia Vanta card is still supported in Nvidia-gl-legacy
up until Mepis 6.04 beta 4 it was working with but since newer versions it does not work using Mepis utilities legacy driver. Someone said that they thought it is no longer supported in legacy any more, anyone know if this is true or not and do I need to find a newer card ?

Exactly my question as well!

Sad As far as I know, you're right and that the Vanta support has been dropped in that package. However, looking at the README from: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-7184.html
indicates that the 1.0-7184 driver from Nvidia supports the Vanta. But will this install okay within Mepis 6.5?! Puzzled

I think you are both in luck Warren has been nice enough to provide the kernel headers in the repos & if memory serves thats been the only problem i remember in past to compiling & installing the Nvidia drivers from scratch. You might want to check your system for installed Nvidia glx packages & remove them before you start. Allso read their directions for needed packages for compile. Good luck!

Here's hoping

Jim, thanks for the reassurance.
Though I'm waiting for the 6.5 final before experimenting!

Stick with the 7xxx series

Stick with the 7xxx series legacy drivers with a Vanta - isn't supported in the 9xxx series...

Why not now

If youve got the drive space nows the time to experiment & learn the ropes so when the final is done you are ready to rock and roll , practice makes perfect with compiling drivers or anything else for that matter. It will save you a lot of time when it matters on a keeper. Just dont play with your main setup, its really annoying when things go wrong.
