partimage error - unknown filesystem (ntfs) workaround

I have discovered an issue related to backing up ntfs formatted partitions with partimage. The title basically says it all. When started, after selecting the partition and setting the various choices, partimage reports an unknown file system type, but windows continues to work and does not see any faults in the ntfs partiton when you run chkdsk.

The answer is to boot the windows system with the windows install cd and choose the repair option. Log into the windows version you need to access and run chkdsk /p, then when finished, reboot the system and try partimage again, it should correctly recognize the ntfs filesystem. Running chkdsk at boot is not sufficient to fix this issue, it must be done from the install cd.

Before anybody jumps on me for giving a windows assist, my purpose here is to assist Linux users by giving them an answer to a problem that I have seen twice only in the last year, but I have not found a suitable answer despite searching the net for some time. I believe using a linux tool to backup a windows partition is showing a trust in what linux has to offer.
