SimplyMepis 32 6.05 RC1

Just a heads up. After installing SimplyMepis 32 6.05 RC1, and doing the update you are left with no access to your network interface. All you can do is ping your loopback address, thats it. Has anybody else had this issue and is it resolved in RC 2?? I have been a big fan of this distro since day 1. Will wait for feedback before trying RC2.

I have the same problem on an Athlon64 3400+ machine with onboard netwok card. The first problem I noticed two days ago was that I could not print a web page. (My morning crossword) Then yesterday I was unable to access the internet. I threw in a spare network card I had lying around but still no connection. I think the pronlems occurred after an update. I'm running RC 1 from a live cd with no problem.

I had the same problem with an athlon 2600 32bit rc1 and found in system configuration > internet & network > MEPIS network assistant that the start at boot box was unchecked after updates. Putting a check in the box and a reboot fixed the problem. No problems with it since.

That's not the problem here, I'm afraid. I even went as far as to set a static IP address, but still the same symptoms. It just works long enough to check for updates and then it quits.
Now, on my homebrew P-III 700, on the other hand, it works like a champ, even with DHCP enabled. Go figure. I have to wonder if Mepis just doesn't like AMD products.

Yes, I've had the problem on one machine, but not on another. And no, it's not fixed with RC2.
When I boot Mepis on my Athlon64 3500+ machine, the network card comes up just long enough to grab an IP address, find out if there are updates and to bring in the weather report. After that, the interface completely goes down, and--like you--all I can ping is the loopback address. This happens regardless of whether I run it from the live CD, or from the installation on the harddrive. It also happens with both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
However, when I boot an old home-brew Pentium III 700 with the 32-bit version of Mepis, networking works like a champ.
Warren, if you're reading this, here are the specs on the computer that's having a problem:
Computer: Hewlett-Packard Pavililon a1130n
Processor: Athlon64 3500+, Venice core
Network Adapter: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
