Open Office 2.1

Hi,
Just wondering. Would the final release of Mepis include the latest updated version of open office? Ubuntu seems to be carrying a later version than the 2.02 that mepis has.

...I downloaded the English .tar.gz and extracted it to a 6.5 RC-2 system and ran all the .rpms through alien.
I pulled the Debian menu integration .deb into the directory with all the .debs spit-out by alien, and replaced the 'RPMS' directory with a 'deb' directory, and tar.bz2'ed everything up and uploaded it to:

The .png file in the /download directory is a screenshot of the .tar.bz2 file contents.
Download it, extract it to your /opt directory, and install the .deb files in the way that you are most comfortable with.
Maybe that will be of help to some folks.
If nothing else, serving as a dire warning to others is not a bad thing to be.

I hadn't seen that thread at all. Maybe I should start visiting MepisLovers.
What I got from that thread is that you'll have to
apt-get remove openoffice.org*
because synaptic won't do the job. I would have missed that nuance because apt-get is my preferred method.
If you do grab OOE680_m6_mepis6.5_packed-1_en-US.9095.tar.bz2 you won't have to hop-around the structure of the extracted file...all the .debs are in one directory, so a single
dpkg -i *.deb
will suffice.

2.02 is the OO.o version in SM 6.5 RC-2. I wouldn't expect that to change, and there really is no reason that it should.
[UPDATED]
If the latest version of OO.o is desired, the best course of action would be to remove the current OO.o installation, then download, "alienize" and install the latest version from here:
http://openoffice.bouncer.osuosl.org/?product=OpenOffice.org&os=linuxintel&lang=en-US&version=2.1.0
or here:
http://projects.openoffice.org/native-lang.html
Unless you have a problem with OO.o 2.02, which is addressed in the 2.02 - 2.1 changelog, there isn't much of a reason to bother with 2.1.
