Wireless connected the hard way (SM 6.5 RC2)
Installed SM 6.5 RC 2 on my HP hard disk (hw description below)
Noticed that the blue light is on for my HP's wireless card.
No other indication of a network.
After setup of SM 6.5 RC 2 Network Assistance with SSID, frequency & WEP (with Apply).
Noticed that wireless is on eth1 -- not wlan0.
Noticed no KNemo app on status bar.
ping fails: Network is unreachable.
Stop & Restart Network.
Noticed no ---- app on status bar.
ping fails: Network is unreachable.
Noticed iwconfig results shows wrong frequency -- not what I typed into NA.
Set frequency with iwconfig and checked iwconfig output.
No improvement -- no connection.
I was trying to use the new SM 6.5 software to connect wirelessly via my internal broadcom bcm4312. That failed so I connected using the more traditional methods such as grabbing the M/S broadcom driver, blacklisting broadcom, setup ndiswrapper, etc.
Now I am connected and sending this message! Still, it would be nice to connect with the SM NA.
This is still THE BEST MEPIS EVER and far better than any other Linux distro.
