Setting hp printer lan address

I can add my HP DeskJet 5850 printer (Mepis 6.0), but it will not print.I have tried various URIs for the printer which is attached to my system via ethernet. The printer (hit button, print info)only tells me a meaningless non-local URL that is unreachable via ping. I can add the printer via KDE config, I think the URI should be in the form socket://LAn address:9100. Seems to get the right driver as well.

Any suggestions for setting the printer lan address? It should be somthing like 192.168.1.102.

many thanks,

G

I don't have that printer,

I don't have that printer, so I can't give any direct advice other than to ask if you've consulted the printer documentation?

My occupation?
Well, computer geek-stuff, mostly. I could tell you all about it; but, then I would have to delete you.

Do a Synaptic search for "deskjet"..

Do a Synaptic search for "deskjet" and it will give you two files to install, then you should be able to use the KDE Control Center to install your printer with no problem.
