nvidia 9755 driver + SM6.5 RC2 gave me s-video out for the first time in 18 months
I have had a Toshiba Tecra M30 laptop for 18 months now and not having s-video out has been a real downer. If I wanted to send a signal to a TV or projector by using the s-video port, I was plain out of luck and windows was not an option because I trashed it long ago and vowed never to return.
I knew that s-video worked with linux because we have been running cables from my wifes PC to the TV whenever we wanted to watch a video, but up until now, the only way we could watch the video on a big screen from my laptop was to borrow a friends projector and use the vga out port after a major re-arrangement of our lounge. I gave it a try again tonight and to my absolute delight, the TV screen was displaying the mepis logo and an extended desktop. I didn't care that it was on the left, I was just happy to have it there.
The best I could get in the past was the boot screens and some scrolling text on the TV, but as soon as X started, it was all over rover, the tv just went blank. The latest Mepis Release candidate + the nVidia 9755 driver has changed all that. Setting the nvidia options in mxconfig to tv out, applying the change, logging out and killing X was all I needed to do. My desktop icons were sorely messed up while the TV was working, but changing the settings back from TV to Clone brought them back into line.
Wow, thanks to all the crew at Mepis LLC. There can be no doubt, this version of Mepis is going to be the best ever produced and I am behind it 100%.
