Synaptic Updates shuts down internet access
For RC2 - After updating from Synaptic (mepis repositories) shuts down access to the internet - worked before when first installed. This was the same case on Beta 7. Its getting so I don't want to try any updates a crash city may result. Haven't tried RC3 as everyone and his brother is trying to get it...
Also although I don't use it much - Gimp locks up when trying to install the plugins.

The network connection is
The network connection is reset to not start at bootup. To fix it, just open menu > system > mepis > mepis network assistant, go to the interfaces tab and check the box that says 'start at bootup'.
The gimp may be due to a corrupt config file. Delete the folder .gimp in your homedir and see if it works now.

Newbie or not Newbie, there's always a question
Go to
Go to K>System>MEPIS>MEPISNetworkAssistant and click and put in your root password. Click on the Interfaces tab and with the appropriate Settings for:(Eth0) check the Start at boot and Start at Apply and then click Apply and Ok.
For some reason these are unchecked during an upgrade.

Is that trying to install
Is that trying to install the plugins, or is that when Gimp is starting up? If you don't have a scanner hooked up you can sort the latter out by removing something.. more info here.
Fixed internet startup - Gimp still hangs up
Internet fixed with suggestion - Thanks Removed gimp files in home directory - Still tries to startup on reboot - Its hanging up on Xscanimage plugin -
I do have a Samsung Laser MFD (Scanner, Printer, Copier) SCX-4016. I have never got the scanner to work on any Linux distro - I just gave up on that on. I have a Canon scanner that I only connect when I use windows.
Im still going to play with this Gimp thing when I get the time.
Thanks again for advice on everything. I'll get back with you
Fixed Gimp problem -
Fixed gimp problem by completely removing all Gimp installed files (thru Synaptic). I'll wait until I get RC3 then install and play with it then.
Apparently
Apparently you didn't read the instructions carefully; the file in question that needs to be removed is not in the home directory. You need to check this location /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plugins and delete Xscanimage from there.
As for the start up problem, that might be fixed after Gimp is running.
Gimp works now
Installed RC3 - Same Gimp problem. Removed Xcanimage plugin from lib/gimp/2.0/plugins - Gimp now works -
Thanks again - Now if I could only get the scanner to work!
