Camera linking through usb

I am so used to "the other OS" and the way it "badunks" when I plug a camera in and turn it on. Mepis does not and also does not just open to the photo manager. Is Mepis recognizing the camera is there and just not informing me or is there something I need to do? The camera is a Samsung Digimax 240.

I will need to be able to upload pictures from it to the photo manager at some point soon. Another question I guess is what is the best way to save the photos once uploaded? (any special file tagS etc.)?

See if it shows up on your desktop

See if a new icon for it shows up on your desktop when you plug it in.

Your Samsung should be "USB Mass Storage Compliant", which means that an operating system will see it as a removable disk drive.

If it doesn't show up on your desktop, click on the icon that looks like a home in your taskbar, and see if it's listed under "Storage Media".

If so (showing up as a removable drive in either place), if you right click on it and select "actions", one of the choices will be "digiKam mount and download" if you want to use digiKam for that purpose.

Or, you can simply go to the folder on the drive (your camera) that has the images in it (if you click on the folders and drill down, one of them will contain your images).

That's the way I do my memory cards in Windows anyway (I hate the Windows "Camera and Scanner Wizard" and disable it from popping up when I plug in new media). I would not personally use that Windows Wizard for moving photos.

Instead, I copy my photos to where I like to keep them (under a folder named Photos, with subfolders setup by yyyymmdd).

Ok

I was able to get to the camera through storage media, then copy photos to home folder and then open with shofoto program. Seems it is a doable operation.
Thanks again Jim, what would I do without you?
