Can't use nvidia-glx1.0.9755 mepis driver with 2- 7900GT 256MB DDR3 cards

This doesn't seem right to me but as the title says the 9755 driver just won't work. Before I did any installing I tried the live CDs just to test it out. I had to go back to 6.5 beta6 (didn't try B7) to be able to boot choosing nvidia driver option in grub. This gave me the 9746-2 version which after I installed I pinned and it all upgraded fine. now running in SLI with dual monitors. I suspect the 9755 would work but for some reason even when I installed it I would just loose video input to the monitor. Not really a big deal because I can live with the performance of the older driver. Just thought I would mention this here in case someone else has this same experience. Same results with both 32bit and 64bit. I'm supposed to install windows on this machine
Beryl is incredible on here. Can't hardly quit playing with it.
thank you

crispian,
thank you for the info. just curious though what would be the difference in performance I wonder from 9746 compared to 9755. The reason I ask is I have everything working right now and I am extremely happy with it but if I would see any improvement with the newer driver I might go for it. I have configured xorg with nvidia-xconfig for SLI and its running fine in twin view. Thank you again for the link I will read it through and bookmark it for sure.
It can work!

I had similar problems using Mepis 64 on a 7900GS- after installing the nVidia drivers my monitors just switched off during booting.
You just need to drop into text mode and run "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg". It's got something to do with resolutions not getting set up properly.
Well written instructions are in this thread-

Once you get it working you'll love it!
