Hi Guys,
before Mepis 6.5 goes final is there any chance to package Open Office 2.2?I think office productivity software is crucial for a complete user desktop, this would be a smart move to make. Every other distro will be packaing this now and I really don't want to see Mepis get left behind. It's atleast as essential as a new version of Amarok. O.O 2.2 has some good improvements that should be in Mepis 6.5. Come on Warren...
make it happen!
PLEASE!

You'll find what you want here: http://mepis.gabston-howell.org/download/ ( Filename: OOE680_m6_mepis6.5_packed-1_en-US.9095.tar.bz2 )
It's an "alienized" version (contents shown below) that I have installed on a 6.5 installation, and found it to work correctly.
You'll need to remove your existing installation of OpenOffice.org first, and install all the '.deb's with dpkg, kpackage or synaptic.

I'll casually keep up with the OpenOffice.org releases in this same manner.
If nothing else, serving as a dire warning to others is not a bad thing to be.

Hi,
I believe Warren stated a week or so ago that backporting OO.org wouldn't be handled by Mepis. It simply would drain too much resources from current development/testing activities.
What real advantages or great new features does 2.2 offer over the current 2.02 version used in Mepis?
