Mepis 6.5 RC3 64-bit edition

I was wondering if anybody has Mepis 64-bit installed and up and running. I haven't tried it and was wondering how the progress is going with 64-bit applications and Mepis in general. How well does it work? Is it showing some progress?

I downloaded and installed 'Sabayon 3.3' 64-bit and installed it onto my 64-bit machine and was suprised to see that it worked from start. I am much impressed with it. (It is a Gentoo knockoff and uses the Gentoo Portage file repository system.). It is by far very up to date with the latest software. . . but it doesn't allow much as far as integration with Debian and RPM/bin
program files.

All the software has to all be installed via Konsole and needs to be compiled after it is downloaded. .. takes a while. Doesn't have a program as effective as synaptic. . ('Kuroo' is like 'synaptic' is developmental state and not fully functional.). . . Konsole uses 'emerge' versus 'apt-get'. . . this took a little time to get use to.

Debian software offers a lot more independent software development out there that is compatible and being developed for Debian 'based' systems. . . .this is the plus side of all of this. The installation of RPM and bin files is a plus and quicker. Gentoo doesn't use bin or rpm files.

This is the problem one faces in choosing a Distro to use. . . Who has the latest up-to-date repositories and quickest/easiest installs.

So. . . . how is Mepis 64-bit evolving? Will it be worth the time to see if it works or wait till 'Final' comes out? Any idea's, thought's, or comments would be welcome. . . .

Mepis64 6.5 RC3 runs OK here on desktop and laptop

Hi,

The 64bit version of Mepis 6.5 (RC3) runs very well here on my Core2Duo laptop and my AMD64 desktop machine.
Final release of Mepis 6.5 (both a 32 and 64bit version) is expected within days.

The only 32bit Mepis version that I still use is Mepis 6.0 which has been fully upgraded to RC3 status through all beta/RC versions.

Highly recommended. Either version.

64 bit works very well on my

64 bit works very well on my AMD X2. There are some issues, but they are minor and they might not bother you (depending on your needs). You could always install both 32 and 64bit and share /home between them so you could switch pretty fast to 32 if there's something that you need but doesn't work in 64bit
