ATI Radeon Mobility x1400

I am new to Mepis but i have gotten v6 RC2 installed on my hard drive and gotten the wireless card that is in my Dell E1505 to work thanks to those that helped me on the forums.

I have another problem that i hope someone can help with. Its the video card thats in the E1505

I can only set to either 800x600 or 1024x768. But since this is a 15.4 widescreen display on the E1505 is there any way to set that as such. i'm not positive of the exact figures but i can get them from Windows XP if that'll help . Things look a bit scrunched up on my screen and i would like to get it to the widescreen resolution if thats at all possible.

Thanks very very much to any that might take the time to help a noobie here.

fglrx driver from ATI

I recommend the fglrx driver from ATI.

First of all, do you really have RC2 of v6 Mepis?

There is a final of v6 and v6.5 is up to RC3 now, will be final very soon. A reinstall of a newer .iso may make things easier.

Try to install the ATI driver from the Mepis utilities. These utilities have changed recently so I'm not sure I can give you exact instructions. You could possibly also need to edit your xorg.conf to add the needed resolution(s)...

If by some chance you are unable to install the ATI drivers from the Mepis utilities, you could install the kernel headers and download the drivers from ATI's web site.

The wiki http://www.mepis.org/docs or Saist's guides at http://www.mepisguides.com should be helpful to you.

Note that you can choose a different resolution during installation by pressing F3 at the first install screen. There is also a place in Mepis utilities to change the resolution.

ATI Radeon Mobility x1400

My apologies I do have version 6.5 RC2. I will get and try to install the ATI driver that you mentioned. Can i just install it over the old one or do i have to reinstall Mepis all over again. I would hate to have to do a total reinstall cause i finally got my wireless working very well.

as i small sidelight ( i don't know if its proper to ask in this forum ) but does the new release candidate have a gui for utilizing ndiswrapper for wireless card installation (similar to Knoppix)yet? It would be a godsend if they could put that into future releases

Thanks again

I did a web search for the driver that you mentioned and i found a how to using the Mepis X windows assistant. It walked me right thru installing the driver. Thanks very very much for all your help.
