Some how I lost sound

I had been running sound through online radio and amarock and playing cds but, tried to plug in today and nothing. I did download some games through synaptic. Tried game downloads from online but couldn't get them to run and deleted them. What might I have done to mess up the sound? Is there anything like a system restore with linux or no?
Ok, I just tried a cd through kcd and that plays but, just tried to start amarock to see if
i could play through there and got nothing. It won't even start now. I am getting nervous.

play a cd through amarock using oss as the engine in amarock. I still cannot get to the sream through last fm inside amarock.
Now I wish I didn't have to go to work. Maybe I can check in here on a computer there.
