Epson R380 printer needing Avasys and lack of cups-config
Posts: 4
What a pain. I still don't know if I'll get this damn Epson to work, but it'll be a beaut if I ever do (5000dpi x 1600dpi).
I have a copy of the Avasys driver as rpm and tgz. So I untarred it and tried to compile. Nope can't do that
because the cupsys deb distributed a broken cups. You need to include the cups-config shell script in
your distro so that things like this can be done. So I now have no option but to break my nice deb
system by downloading cups from the source and building it.

When I get time I'll probably make that version of cups into a deb and add it to my private deb
archive.
Please fix it, on the next release.
BTW, the liveCD craps out on my x64 system unless I use the NVidia choice and failsafe. I might be able to use
other choices with failsafe. However, once I got it to actually run it installed flawlessly. Kudos on that.
The only other distro I could get to install was SuSE (which I really don't want). However the the debian cd had a
bad spot on the CD.
Well, need to get back to this and try and get the printer printing.
