Cannot change Screen Resolution with VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP

Card: VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP
Mepis version 6.0

The card was working more or less OK until I tried to change resolutions in KDE. I switched from the default 1024x768 to 800x600...but it would not "take" and kept putting me back in 1024x768. Then I tried to put it in 640x480 and that really stuck a thumb in it.. the screen has "noise" lines running across the bottom of it and while I am able to access the screen resolution menu, I cannot access the OK or Apply buttons, they are off the screen..so I'm stuck in 640x480 which is unusable.

Question: How can I set the Resolution outside of KDE?

Thanks in Advance.

hi

if you look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log you will see the modelines that your graphics chip can support. it looks like xorg interrogates the chip directly to get this info.

you can then replace the modelines in /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the new modelines.

this should solve your problem and give you more display options.

cheers
stuart
