Mepis 6.5 final release CD rom/DVD problem, wifi problem

i was looking in older posts.. this problem has been mentioned but no solution,,I have one CDRW/DVDROM combo drive..but for some reason kwikdisk is showing me 2..and best part is none of them mounts..i tried inserting many cds and dvds..nothing is recognised..
Also Knetworkmanager shows my wireless router as well as neighbours too..but just wont connect to any..by some luck i was able to connect to internet through Mepis Network Assistant..but when i restarted my computer next day..it was back to square one..and had to configure again and again and again..and i am sure
after i shut down my computer tonight..same thing will happen tommorow..reminds me of that movie
"50 first dates"
Infact, wireless worked like a breeze in Mepis 6.5 rc 2..and i dont know what happened after that..
I have been using Mepis since 3.3.1 ..i have tried all the inbetween versions...and yet i am sure any Mepis veteran here will agree that 3.3.1 was the most stable version...
I love Mepis among all other Linux flavours..but looks like this time in 6.5 a lot has been compromised just to accomodate Beryl and yet keeping the live cd size under 700 MB..

For the record..I have gateway laptop..
Please do post it here if you need any other info or have any solution.

Check MEPISLovers Forum

I think I saw a work around on the MEPISLovers forum earlier tonight for the cd/dvdrom problem, not a perfect solution but it was reported to work pretty well. On the wireless problem, I'm not much help but more information on your computer hardware and wireless hardware might be helpful for others that know more than me.

Start with the Wiki

The step-by-step for wireless is here:

http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/Adjust_the_wireless_connection

If you go through those steps in order, you will most likely end up fine. If not, the last step tells you what information we would need to help you.

Good luck.
