Hello,
First a bravo for Mepis 6.5. I am setting up a computer for a friend and decided on Linux. I have tried Ubuntu. Liked it but didn't do the streaming stuff. Tried Freespire. Just couldn't get a reasonable screen resolution. Took ages to boot. So, I tried Mepis and I get a reasonable screen resolution and it boots real fast. Looks good and clean. Just right for my friend, a newbie.
So, here is my problem:
I have an wide screen LCD monitor, Mirai DML-522W100 which does 1620x1050. I am getting 1280x1024 @ 75Hz.
Before I start fiddling with xorg.conf has anybody already done this?
The computer is a Dell Optiplex GX260 with Intel 845G chipset.
BTW, I notice there is no Modeline line in xorg.conf
Monitor characteristics:
Video Frequency Bandwidth 140 MHz dot clock
Horizontal sync. Frequency 30-82kHz
Vertical sync. Frequency 56-76Hz
Which gives Modeline like this:
Modeline "1680x1050@55" 140.00 1680 1712 2240 2272 1050 1071 1081 1103
BTW, I got as far as I did in Freespire due to great help from their forum.
Thanks for any help possible.
Norman

OK, thanks. Trouble is that when I select anything above what I already get a 'Signal out of Range' message appears on the screen.
I have tried editing xorg.conf and using 915 resolution but to no avail. It seems I may have to get an NVidia card. However, Windows 2000 (now that is old) ran it at 1600x1200 and my Dell 9400 laptop ran it at 1680x1050 as a second monitor. The laptop has Intel integrated graphics as well. So, it does not appear to be the Intel graphics that are at fault.
Where to from here?

for starters file a bug report with exact hardware specs and an accurate problem description with .
Now, post your xorg.conf file and maybe we can get it done...

The MEPIS CD has an option

The MEPIS CD has an option to set the resolution at boot. Boot the CD. When in the grub screen, press F3 and pick the desired resolution.
Continue the boot and login. Then go to menu > system > mepis > mepis X window assistant. There is a tab repair, with it you can overwrite the xorg.conf of the installed version, thus correcting the resolution.
Simply Easy, ain't it
BTW: Welcome to MEPIS!
And check out the forum at mepislovers.org. It is very much alive with lots of friendly people.
