External monitor with different resolution

Hi folks, here's my problem:

I have Mepis on a laptop with an Intel Extreme Graph. video board and a 15'' TFT that displays at 1024x768. At my workstation I have an external LCD monitor that supports 1280x1024.

Mepis clones by default the image from the laptop to the external monitor, but at 1024x768, which produces a quite awkward image.

I've checked my xorg.conf and all the SubSection “Display” entries have "1280x1024" for all depths. Still on the KDE Display Settings I only get one screen with a max res of 1020x768.

How can I get my external monitor to work with 1280x1024 res?

Thanks in advance.

I don't pretend to be knowledgeable in Mepis, but this helped me:
