Brother DCP-110C not working
Posts: 19
Hi,
Hope someone can help. Been trying today without success to get my printer working. Following the instructions on the Brother site, I downloaded the linux driver file. I tried to install the .deb file without success. Then read a post by someone with the same printer who used 'Alien' to convert the .rpm file for the printer to .deb This file then installed ok. The printer now shows up in the list just fine. However, the printer does not work and attempts to print give me the error message of /usr/bin/lpr: the printer or class was not found
Perhaps someone has an idea what may be wrong or has installed this printer and can walk me through it.
Thanks in advance.
Andy
How to intall Brother DCP-110C

In the hope of helping someone else with the same issue I have answered my own question! The instructions for installing the printer can be found at the link listed below. Running Mepis 6.0 here and found that the lpr and cups drivers are needed from the 'Brother' site. Brother says the printer will work with just the lpr driver but mine did not. Upon following the link below I successfully installed the printer. These instructions indicate a problem after reboot (instruction #8 and on). This did not occur with my system and the printer works after reboot. Hope that one day this post helps someone avoid the problems I had.
