Just downloaded it and much prefer it to SimplyMEPIS versions since 3.4. I use MEPISLite on a PC (with only dial-up internet access) a bit, but the MS Word compatibility of OpenOffice really appeals to me.
Pre-6.0 still good

Hi darrelljon,
If you search on earlier versions of Mepis, you'll find several threads by users still happy with versions before 6.0 or debating what a "lite" Mepis should include and be used for.
I use MepisLite on a laptop and desktop, with 6.0 running on another desktop. All dual boot with Windows XP. The prospects of a new version of Lite are still good (for the sake of older systems, for educational uses in schools, etc.).
While the discussion continues, though, I've been experimenting with MepisLite to discover what I actually *need* that I can't get with Lite. So far, it's the document compatibility that creates the only issue for me. All the other basic functions I need are available in Lite. Plus, it runs zippier, and both my dial-up modems work fine (which they don't with Mepis versions after 3.4).
So are you asking a question about more recent versions of Open Office with pre-6.0 Mepis?
