Canon Powershot S40 Problems

When I plug the camera into computer it correctly identifies the camera make and model and an icon appears on the desktop. However when I open the icon to see what files are on the camera, it just appears to show an empty folder. I know there are photo's there and can see them quite happily when booted into XP.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.
